Winter in Oregon is not exactly prime time for an outdoor photographer like myself. Someday I hope to have an indoor studio. Ahhhh...someday. Until that day, I either go out in the rain, go to cute coffee shops or...do both!
I had an outdoor bridal session scheduled this same day for the morning but it was cancelled because the weather was really bad. Even Oregonians have their limits as far as wind, rain and cold temps. Then, my photographer friend, Jamie Hill, sent me a text and asked if I wanted to come with her to a fun engagement session at a super cute coffee shop I love here in Eugene. Um, yes please! So off we went, in the pouring rain, with all of our gear & a few umbrellas. The couple, Heather & Chris, are friends of Jamie's and are getting married on Valentine's Day. They drove over from the coast to do the session. They were so sweet and had no problem with this other photographer (me!) taking extra photos of them. Phew! We set up a cute little table at Coffee Plant Roaster here in Eugene and started taking photos. So fun! The staff was super nice too. After the coffee photos, we drove over to the University of Oregon campus to take outdoor photos. Thank goodness for umbrellas and covered walkways. Phew! Then, we kept going and headed to 5th St. Market for more photos in the courtyard. I forgot how pretty 5th St. Market is. I think my favorite moment was when we had Chris get down on one knee and recreate his proposal to Heather. An older woman walked by me, grabbed my arm and said, "Honey, that looks sooooo posed!" Too funny! Always interesting shooting photos in a public place. So, don't let the rain in Oregon scare you away from fun photos. A cup of coffee or blue umbrella make some of the best props. Congratulations, Heather & Chris! -Lynn Marie
