Are you vaccinated against COVID-19?
Yes. 100%. I have been fully vaccinated since May 2021. I received my COVID booster in January 2022.
How much does a photo session cost?
Please click here for wedding photography & click here for portrait photography. I also offer event photography, birth photography and corporate headshots. All pricing info is found under my pricing menu via my home page.
I know a friend/coworker/uncle with a camera who will charge WAY less? Why should we book you?
Short answer? This is my full time job & I'm really good at it. This isn't a hobby. This is what I've done for 15 solid years. I work hard to create an experience for my clients & truly love my job. I use professional equipment, multiple cameras, backup all images multiple ways, have insurance, pay taxes and do all of the not-so-fun parts of business behind the scenes. My background is in marketing & business and that goes a long way when running a photography...well...business.
What type of payment do you accept?
Credit or debit cards, personal checks & cash.
Do you photograph same sex weddings and couples?
Yes, of course! I work with, am friends with & have family who are all part of the LGBTQ+ community.
Do you travel out of the area for photos?
Yes! I spend time over in the Sunriver/Bend/LaPine area and am happy to do sessions over there at our property or nearby location. If I'm already in the area, there's no travel fee. I'm also happy to travel to the coast or other gorgeous locations you love. For longer, far away weddings, I do ask that you pay for an overnight stay at your venue or nearby hotel. I don't want to fall asleep driving home.
You took so many photos. Why did I not get to see all of them?
You will see me take multiple shots of the same scene to get the exact look I'm trying to achieve. Often I am quickly changing camera settings to get a look or focal point just right. I do not share any photos that are not up to my standards. I do not share any unedited photos. At every session, there is a percentage of images where people blink, scratch their nose, rub their face, sneeze, are out of focus, etc. These are simply deleted.
How can I see my edited photos?
I upload all edited images to an online gallery site called Pixieset. After I upload the images, I will send you an e-mail with a private link. From there, you can view them on your computer, tablet or smart phone from the comfort of your home.
How long does it take to see my edited photos?
About 2-4 weeks for portrait sessions, 8-12 weeks for weddings but often much sooner. It depends on how busy I am. April-November are my busiest months. For weddings, a good rule of thumb is to take the number of hours from your event (6, 8, etc.) and triple it. So, a 6 hour wedding takes me roughly 18 hours of computer work after your event. I go through every single photo from my cameras & my second shooter's cameras & edit by hand. It takes time to do it right.
What is the best time of day for photos?
I prefer to take photos in the evening during the last 60-90 minutes of daylight. This allows for the best "golden hour" lighting and guarantees no harsh shadows on faces or people squinting into the sun. I do offer AM shoots if needed but I am not a morning person...just keeping it 100% real. Total night owl.
What should I wear for photos?
You want to be comfortable in your clothes. Wear something that you love & that makes you feel amazing! If you’re comfortable in your clothes, it really translates to comfort in front of the camera. Click here for ideas & I will update images as I have time.
Accessories like earrings & necklaces. Jewel toned clothing photographs really well. (purples, blues, greens, reds) Pinks and oranges look great together too. For fall photos, a colorful scarf is a great way to spice up an outfit. For winter, colorful hats and gloves are fun. Men can wear a colorful shirt or layers for added texture and interest. Can't go wrong with nice jeans and a colorful sweater. I always tell families that they don't need to match as much as coordinate.
I'm worried my baby/child/teenager won't cooperate or listen? Help!
It's okay. Really. I have two kids and totally understand. Every session has a moment or two where kids don't want to have their photo taken. It's normal. I've found that letting young children wander around, play with sticks, climb logs, etc. usually gets the wiggles out. Older kids often like to come up with their own ideas, which I'm fine with. I've also found (sorry parents!) that letting me wander away with your child often relaxes them. Sometimes kids are worried about "messing up" in front of Mom & Dad and when I get them alone, they relax and let out the best smiles.
Why should I order prints from you? Why can't I just print at Walgreens or Costco?
The prints & other products from my print house will look better & last longer and are professional pieces of art. I use a professional print house for photographers. Their job is photo printing. That's it. It's what they do. I can guarantee the colors I see on my computer monitor will match your final prints. The problem with Walmart, Target, Walgreens, Costco, etc. is that I can not guarantee their colors. I work hard to give your photos a certain "look" and by printing them somewhere else, that look will most likely be "off." If you want to print your own photos, I can recommend printers/websites that do a good job & also provide you with a print release.
What if you die in a car crash after our event? Will we still get our photos?
Yup. Here we go. I get asked this question 4-5 times a year!? I've seen it on various "What To Ask Wedding Photographers" articles online for many years too. Honestly? I don't have a good answer & this question always makes me sad and makes the entire vibe of a consult weird. (I was in a near fatal car crash in college...trigger the PTSD!) But, I will do my best to answer it here. So, if my cameras survived the crash, hopefully the memory cards would too. Each of my 4 cameras had duel SD cards, shooting copies of photos. I would ask my husband, parents, close friend or children to give the cards to one of my preferred second shooters to edit. If the cameras & cards also perish in car the accident, your money would be refunded for products (final images) never received. Hope that helps with this question. I'll try my best not to die going to or from photo sessions and weddings. Ha!
Do you have an indoor studio?
No, I don't. I would love to have my own studio space in the future. For now, most of my work is outside, on location. I am willing to come to your home for a family/lifestyle session or newborn session. In fact, I love doing in home sessions! My only requirements are a clean, clear photo area with good, natural light from windows. For boudoir photos, I have access to a beautiful bed & breakfast in Eugene with gorgeous rooms.
What kind of equipment do you use?
I use Nikon cameras and professional Nikon lenses plus a Sigma Art 35mm lens. I edit all images on my iMac using Lightroom and Photoshop. I use a Holdfast Moneymaker camera strap too.
Did you study photography in school? What's your background?
I have a B.A. from the University of Oregon's School of Journalism and Communication with a concentration in advertising and marketing. I have a minor in Business Administration from the UofO as well. I worked for 8 years at an international advertising agency as a graphic designer where I worked with photos every single day. I learned much of what I do now while working at that job. I've been taking photos my entire life as a hobby and am self taught. I love learning and am always reading up on new photography techniques & ideas.
